Historical information:
Historical information about: Henri-Gustave Delvigne was born on April 10, 1800, Hamburg – October 18, 1876, in Toulon (France, in the Provence-Alpes region) – a French soldier and inventor. He became captain of the French infantry service, from which he resigned after the beginning of the July Revolution of 1830. Delvigne revolutionized rifle technology and made it a weapon.
What is a percussion pistol:
The percussion mechanism or percussion lock became the successor to the flintlock in weapons. In it, a primer was used to ignite the charge, which was hit by a drummer. The capsule lock was superior to the flintlock in many ways: it was easier to load, it was more independent of the weather, and it was more reliable than the flintlock. Many obsolete flintlocks were redesigned into percussion caps.
The primer mechanism consists of a hammer, which is similar to a hammer-trigger (a trigger with a flint clip) in flint locks and nozzles on which the primer is put on. In the nozzle there is a tube leading to the barrel. The capsule contains a chemical mixture called mercury fulminate or mercury fulminate, the formula of which is Hg (ONC) 2.
The trigger hit the primer (put on a hollow priming rod – a brand tube, the cavity of which was connected to the bore) due to which the explosive mercury exploded. The flame, moving down the pipe tube, fell into the barrel, where it ignited a charge of gunpowder. In addition to igniting the powder charge in the capsules, the pressure in the cartridge also rises to the level necessary to maintain the stability of the burning of the powder.
