Louis XIV The Sun King was a French king who ruled France from 1643 to 1715. He was born Louis the Great, also known as the “King of Children” and later the “King of the Sun“.

Louis XIV was crowned on June 7, 1654 in Reims. The king was on the throne of France for 72 years – longer than all other European kings in history (of the monarchs of Europe, only some rulers of the small principalities of the Holy Roman Empire were in power longer). During this time he survived three dauphins – his own son, grandson and great-grandson. Louis XIV died on September 1, 1715 from a wound received while hunting. The king’s successor was his great-grandson Louis XV Beloved.

I don’t know who exactly came up with the idea of ​​a cavalry sword with a Walloon type of hilt, but it really was a man of genius. He took into account almost all the specifics of equestrian combat with melee weapons.
The Walloon sword, or Walloon smallsword, became widespread in the middle of the 17th century, after the battles in the Netherlands. The weapon was to the taste of the enemies of the Dutch and soon Walloon swords were already being produced in France, Sweden and other European countries.

In Sweden, the Walloon sword served the longest, until the middle of the 19th century, as the main weapon of the cavalry.
